Origin – The Alphabet Song
The tune that accompanies “The Alphabet Song” also accompanies “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep”: French melody “Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman,” sometimes credited as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Twelve Variations on Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman.” The song was copyrighted in 1835 by music publisher, Charles Bradlee, who credited 18th-century composer Louis Le Maire as the arranger, and Mozart as the composer of the music’s theme. The original title was “The A.B.C., a German air with variations for the flute with an easy accompaniment for the piano forte.”
