| "The Wheels on the Bus" CD uses familiar children's songs to introduce kids to the real sound of various musical instruments. The included 10 page illustrated booklet also allows your child to see the instruments that are being featured on each song.
So the challenge is what to do while an instrument is being featured so that your child doesn't lose interest.
Here are a few suggestions that are working with my kid that might spark your imagination:
Discuss the instrument being featured by name and get your child to recognize the sound of it.
Get your child to clap along in rhythm ( The song "Soul Clap" is all about this.)
Have your child do a special "dance" such as wiggle on the floor like a worm during The Inchworm flute solo.
Have your child emulate the way in which the instrument is played -- i.e. Air Guitar!
One of these tips might work one day while another one works the next day. Use your imagination and have fun while trying to keep things fresh. Simply dancing around the room is cool too!
Patience is also key. My son heard these songs many many times before he actually started equating Froggy with the saxophone and Walter the Weasel with the trumpet. However, at the age of 2 he now knows Walter AND Miles Davis as trumpet players.
Enjoy,
