Origin

The lyrics now commonly recognized in “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” came from an English poem called “The Star,” written by Jane Taylor and first published in 1806. The French melody “Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman” provided the tune (sometimes credited to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Twelve Variations on Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman”), although the original French lyrics that tell of a young girl tormented by love were not used.
