Groove Kid Nation is a fresh approach to introducing children to musical instruments.
My name is Rodney Lee, I'm a dad and professional musician. While observing my son as he learned about animals via images and sounds (made by his mom and I), I realized that this same method would be perfect for introducing musical instruments. However, it is much harder for teachers/parents to emulate the sound of a saxophone, piano or trumpet! After much thought, I reasoned that one of the best times to introduce a musical instrument is during a familiar or age appropriate song. In addition, the character from the song could also play the featured instrument.
Groove Kid Nation offers a musical experience that mirrors the way in which we first teach children about animals.
Through illustrations, a child sees the instrument and how it is held, and through song the sound of the instrument comes to life. Now that I had the concept, I called together a few of my friends who are among the top professional musicians in LA, and the result is Groove Kid Nation, a planned series of recordings designed to give educators and parents age appropriate tools for introducing musical instruments and music concepts to children.

Exclusive Digital Box Sets for Educators
After releasing a few CDs, I realized that what Early Childhood Educators really need are the tools to introduce this material to an entire class. The illustrated booklet that is included with each CD is too small and fragile to use with a group of students. Wouldn't it be great if the teacher could simply print the images from high resolution files and present to the class as needed?
Therefore, I created a Digital Box Set of each CD specifically for educators (and parents who want to have a full range of tools) that can be easily downloaded. The only thing required is a high speed internet connection.
Each Digital Box Set Includes:
- All 10 tracks from the CD as mp3s. Put in Ipod or burn a custom CD.
- A pdf file containing hi-res illustrations of the characters from the songs playing their own instruments. This allows you to print out the images as needed.
- A curriculum based upon guidelines from the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
- A pdf coloring book of the characters that you can also print out as needed.
- An audio clip (15 seconds) of each instrument so that you can play the sound of a trumpet only, for example. The audio clips of saxophone, piano, flute, bass guitar, guitar, drums, voice, trombone, and trumpet were played by professional musicians.
- And here's the really cool part: You will also receive all 10 tracks from the CD with the lead vocals removed. This allows you to lead the songs with your own voice or create entirely new songs with your own lyrics. The possibilities are endless!
